Numeracy and Math Concepts
Numeracy and math include understanding concepts such as number sense, number recognition, understanding one to one correspondence, identifying more or less, measurement, representation, patterns, shapes and special sense. We do this through play by setting up the environment with the opportunity to explore activities such as the shape sorter, puzzles, building materials such as blocks in different shapes and sizes, sticks, rocks, cardboard boxes and tubes are a few examples that will fit into more than one of the above categories. We also provide opportunities for using language such as big, small, long, short, wide, narrow in play and through stories and songs. Numeracy and math concepts are also used throughout the day in routine as we put on out door clothing, climb stairs, take steps, put toys away and at snack.
